about sec
sec (sound enthusiastic community) is a non-commercial project that aims to build a self-sustained community around sound_expressions. we are a physical space in yerevan and community of artists/musicians/enthusiasts/activists from diverse backgrounds. our goal is to grow in a meaningful way, educate with excitement, and create an environment for unrestrained, lifelong self-learning.
together we shape opportunities for a more joyful, responsible and creative life participation.
if we want to build a sustainable and organised community who pursue a healthy and fertile environment to grow, we need something to rely on. our principles combine approaches, guides and ideas from different social and educational concepts that we find important. we blend them together and create our own vision of our future.
— respect each other and one’s personal boundaries. sexism, racism, or any kind of xenophobia will not be tolerated. accept the diversity of members’ backgrounds and creative ideas. ensure that all voices are heard, promote a culture of mutual respect and understanding
— take independent and sustainable responsibility for your own actions. Initiate and plan activities according to the principles of the community and the sec_space rules
— choose collaboration over competition and encourage others to share ideas, resources, and feedback. develop a spirit of self-education, learn from other members and help them when it is needed. be generous in exchange of knowledge and experience. contribute to the evolution of a safe space where individuals can express themselves without fear of judgment or discrimination. help build a community that is based on collective-driven enthusiasm
— make projects and events for fun, but try to change your own and others’ perception, inspire the audience and practice new skills. all ideas that highlight non-obvious capabilities of gear, formats, and other members are welcome. experiment infinitely, be creative with media and equipment, document unintended results
— understand that every party and small talk is an implicit pedagogical process. be aware, listen deliberately, hone your skills — it all gives path to freedom of expression. try new things, disregard requirements of any prior experience, appreciate mistakes. pursue joy seriously, have fun, be playful yet productive — it all helps to learn casually and cultivate one’s own enthusiasm
— practice open reciprocity, which makes sustainable relationships possible and exchanges mutual and equal. Invest your time, knowledge, and resources for the benefit of the community as a whole. come up with ideas, participate in working groups and become a part of the sec ecosystem — the project is not only about sound, but is also about social experiments, alternative pedagogic practices, and new approaches to community building
— search for new connections and unusual takes on well-known things. borrow from lesser-known practices and theories of arts, humanities, entertainment, management, all things imaginable — develop your own ecology of attention and contribute to the creation of such a framework within the community as a whole
